The Grandstand may not be the most accessible, but this is the place to be for the rarest artisanal cheeses – think mountainside farmers and cheesemakers who still do things the same way as their great grandparents. Over 50 varieties (many of which are at the brink of extinction) are available at The Cheese Ark, and the friendly staff will be glad to let you sample a few. Now simply known as the Gourmet Shop, this gourmet and cheese e-tailer brings you the freshest fine cheese from France and Europe, available in platters, party sets, and a la carte. Here’s one for the east-siders. At this charming Joo Chiat shophouse, complement the amazingly extensive selection of European cheeses (sorted by country of origin and cheese type) with an equally impressive array of crackers biscuits, fruit jams and pastes. The Cheese Shop also has a small curation of wines and beers to go with your cheese. No time to head down? Place an order at its online store (again, free for orders over $100).

The New York food icon Dean & DeLuca is more than just pricy cakes and coffee (they are pretty delicious though.) With over 100 speciality cheese to choose from in its famous cheese rooms, the Australian grocer flies in artisanal selections from all over the world, keeping your options fresh and exciting with an ever-expanding collection. Wine Connection Cheese Bar
We all know Wine Connection, but what you might not be aware of is its cheese bar along Robertson Quay. Besides carrying a selection of over 40 matured farm cheeses (flown in weekly from Europe), the restaurant serves up cheesy dishes like the famed raclette and fondues along with hearty salads, cold cuts, tartines, and naturally, wine. Opening till late means that you can delight in ooey gooey goodness all night long, and still get home with fresh cheese in the morning.

Yet another gourmet outfit on Dempsey Hill, Culina carries over 50 cheeses from France, Spain, Italy, and the UK in different styles and characteristics. Many of them are prepared and served in the in-house bistro, so you can sample them before deciding on your purchase.
