Wanderfolk: Circoloco makes Southeast Asian debut next month, Travelodge Dongdaemun Seoul Opens

On this edition of Wanderfolk, there’s a new hotel in Seoul catering to savvy travellers (who also love to shop), slow travel with celebrity chefs aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express, breakfast in the canopy in Bali, and one of Ibiza’s most loved parties making it’s debut in Phuket next year.

Japanese hospitality in the heart of Ubud? We’re already sold, but HOSHINOYA Bali is upping the ante by opening up the seven private café spaces designed to blend in with the jungle they overlook for breakfast. From 7am-11am, hotel guests can look forward to a light breakfast at Café Gazebo while enjoying the lush greenery and gentle breezes. Served in a three-layer, batik wrapped “Ata Basket” – a traditional item hand-woven from ata grass that grows in a forest in eastern Bali – look forward to breads, seasonal fruits, and salad paired with freshly made herbal tea and Indonesian single origin coffee.

Circoloco Makes Southeast Asian Debut in January 2019

Direct from the Mediterranean party island of Ibiza, beloved party brand Circoloco will be bringing the iconic sound of Ibiza’s underground to Thailand’s island paradise of Phuket! Happening at Baba Beach Club – which boasts most powerful and immersive Funktion-One sound system in all of Asia – on 19 January 2019, the one-day event will feature confirmed headliners Seth Troxler, Peggy Gou, Richy Ahmed, wAFF, Nic Fanciulli, Serge Devant, Lauren Lane, Bas Ibellini, and Mendy Indigo. What’s more, Circoloco SEA 2019 is working with local artists and communities in its sustainability efforts by building up the party site with coconut trees, replacing plastic water bottles with boxed water, and a ban on single-use plastic onsite.

Eastern & Oriental Express Announces 2019 Guest Chef Culinary Series

If you’ve been wanting to tick this particular luxury train journey off your bucket list, there’s no better time to do it when international chefs are popping up on board in collaboration with Yannis Martineu, Executive Chef of the Eastern & Oriental Express. Singapore Pastry Chef Janice Wong will be teaching edible art during a chocolate painting workshop (5 February) while Chef Luke Mangan will be taking guests into Singapore’s food markets for a street food tour on 1 March. French Chef Didier Corlou will be serving up a four-hands dinner and a signature afternoon tea on 2 September, and Thailand’s first celebrity chef Ian Kittichai will be hosting a dinner at celebrates traditional Thai flavours on 8 October.

Travelodge Dongdaemun Seoul Now Open

Upper midscale hotel brand Travelodge has just opened its first property in Seoul, Korea. Located in the capital’s central Jung District, the 242-key hotel is within walking distance to wholesale shopping destination Dongdaemun Shopping Complex, Pyounghwa Fashion Town and multi-level fashion plazas Doota, Migliore, and Hello apM, which open into the wee hours of the morning. Rooms start from 14 square metres (150 square feet) and KRW65,000 a night; the property is also a short stroll from subway stations Euljiro 4-ga and Dongdaemun History & Culture Park.
