The Weekly Grub: 5 Things To Eat And Drink In Singapore This Week

It’s a boozy, bubbly kind of feast this week − in other words, our favourite kind of feast. As we descend well into October, The Guild keeps the good times flowing with Oktoberfest craft beer and bratwurst, while Publico Ristorante introduces a new Ladies’ Night to ease us over hump day. You won’t go hungry either, not with a dreamy picnic spread and succulent seafood tempura on the food front.

Picnic In Style at Andaz Singapore

If you love the whimsy of a picnic spread but not the hassle having it outdoors, Andaz Singapore has the perfect solution. Set high in the sky, the hotel’s dining hub, Alley on 25, is launching a new Afternoon Tea Picnic Set (S$38++ per person) − an ultra-glam picnic basket stuffed with local goodies. Enjoy dreamy city views as you nibble on savouries like smoked salmon tartine and prawn kueh pie tee, or cure your sweet tooth with a selection of scones, cakes, and kueh lapis. Teas and juices are available, but if you want to tipple up early (we won’t judge), a S$40 top-up gets you free-flow wines, beer, and Prosecco.

Andaz Singapore‘s new Afternoon Tea Picnic Set is available daily from 3pm to 5pm, at 5 Fraser St, Level 25, Singapore 189354, p. +65 6408 1234.

Celebrate Oktoberfest at The Guild

What better excuse to binge on beer and bratwurst than Oktoberfest, the Bavarian boozefest that’s now celebrated all over the world? Keong Saik restaurant and bar The Guild is joining the revelry with a spicy take on the bratwurst − the Mala Sausage, infused with mouth-numbing Sichuan peppercorns and accompanied by sweet potato puree. Douse the heat with a malty mug of Festbier, a Young Master Oktoberfest Lager inspired by a historic Oktoberfest brew and boasting toasty notes of pretzels and caramel. Two litres of Festbier and the Mala sausage will go for just S$66 – it’s more than enough to keep you merry.

Let Loose with Publico’s Ladies’ Night

Ladies, here’s your latest chic spot for Wednesday drinks with the squad. Party by the waterfront with Publico Ristorante‘s free-flow Bottega Prosecco and Signature Spritz at S$35++ (for the gents, a S$49++ package is also available). DJ Zafirah will be spinning up some soulful house, and if you’re feeling peckish, the restaurant’s hearty Italian fare makes a great stomach liner.

Takanami Sake Launches in Singapore

Premium sake is making quite the splash in Singapore, so it’s no surprise that illustrious Japanese breweries like Takanami are finding their way here. One of Nagano’s oldest breweries, Takanami Sake has chosen Singapore for the honour of its first overseas venture. Each of its six sake expressions are brewed from pristine Alps waters and fermented through a long winter with Nagano’s original strain of yeast. The result is an exceptional richness of flavour that’ll please the finest palate, from the fruity award-winning Daiginjo to the fresh, creamy Genshu Namazake.

Takanami Sake is available for purchase at selected Singapore dining destinations, including CURE, Preludio (from December 2019), Xi Yan Maxwell, Don Quijote Spanish Restaurant & Bar, and Bar A Vin.

Tuck Into Tasty Tempura at Tenjin

The newest kid on the block at Shaw Centre, Japanese restaurant Tenjin isn’t wasting any time rolling out fresh offerings. This Les Amis Group concept has been generating some buzz with its delicious bowls of tempura donburi − think fried seafood and veggie goodness atop fluffy Hoshi-Jirushi rice. The latest addition to its three-don-strong menu is the Tempura Moriwase (S$24.80), a mixed bowl of eel, crab leg, and prawn served with your choice of rice or Inaniwa Udon. As for sides, how do seasonal sweet potatoes (S$3) wrapped in crisp tempura batter sound?

Tenjin is located at #03-08 Shaw Centre, 1 Scotts Rd, Singapore 228208, p. +65 6235 3312. Open daily 12pm − 3pm and 6.30pm − 10.30pm.
