“What music scene? There’s no music scene in Singapore.” is something you’ve probably heard at least once from someone you know. Well, they’re wrong (obviously). Singapore is a hugely popular venue for international musicians and groups, either as part of an Asian tour or even as a standalone concert. We’ve played host to some of the world’s biggest names across all musical genres such as Beyonce, Katy Perry, Guns N’ Roses, Incognito, Avicii, and the Berliner Philharmoniker, no doubt thanks to our state-of-the-art performances venues Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Indoor Stadium, and The Esplanade.
Music festivals are ubiquitous throughout the year—from international and regional imports Future Music Festival Asia and the *cough*hipster St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival to local ones like F1 Singapore, Singapore International Jazz Festival and ZoukOut.
Local independent music is thriving here as well, what with Esplanade’s Baybeats, the 100 Bands Festival, and indie-friendly venues like Artistry and Lepark. Many young musicians like soulful crooner Charlie Lim, M1LDL1FE, and Inch Chua have already taken the world stage, with many others to follow behind. While we may not yet be like Japan, Australia, or Taiwan, we’re quickly catching up.
Now, who said there’s no music scene in Singapore?
