Mazel Galerie Introduces French Artist-Designer Hubert Le Gall’s First Solo Exhibition in Singapore

Less than six months into its opening, art gallery Mazel Galerie kickstarts the new year with an incredible exhibition by French artist-designer Hubert Le Gall in partnership with Champagne house Ruinart. Welcome To My World is his first solo show in Asia, and features some of his most emblematic pieces.
Anyone familiar with Le Gall’s signature style would know that his works are full of fantasy and the whimsical. Rather than an artist or a designer, the man often describes himself as a creator of furniture whose pieces lie somewhere between contemporary art and design.
“I don’t see myself as a designer because I have more an artistic approach than a design approach. But do I see myself as an artist? I don’t know because I make decorative art; I don’t paint.”
For his first show in Asia, visitors can look forward to new creations exclusively created for Singapore, including the stunning Orchid Flower Table, cast in patinated bronze and white resin. And Le Gall’s pieces are overflowing with imagination – Andy Warhol’s daisies transform into a side table, and Jean Pierre Raynaud’s supersized pots become armchairs.
There is a coffee table with metal beads below the glass surface that you can manipulate with a magnetic ball. You will find a sculpture of Pinocchio with his nose sawed off, lamps masquerading as ostriches, dogs holding lamps to guide your way, and furry rabbit chairs that wouldn’t look out of place at the Playboy Mansion. Everything is familiar and unfamiliar to the viewer’s eye, and that’s just the way it is in the magical realm of Le Gall.
A particular highlight is the artist’s world-renowned Mirrors collection, of which eight spectacular designs – such as the extraordinary Domino (2004) and Romulus (2007) – will be on display at the gallery. Aside from Le Gall’s pieces, Mazel Galerie will also see a range of contemporary, multidisciplinary art, paintings, photography pieces, drawings, and sculptures by other artists.
