Feed me a sinful at Original Sin

As much as I am a true meat maniac, I once tried my hand at meat free life. Vegetarian food can be quite exciting.. when it’s made to be. It’s not all boring – carb heavy pasta bowls and plates of potato when being veggie is a fantastic excuse for stuffing yourself stupid with those kind of tasties. The problem is, although there are a fair few places that have a selection of veggie options, the dishes aren’t always worth mmmm-ing over. If you’re looking for a decent vegetarian restaurant that is solely veggie, don’t wear away your finger pads any longer.. here’s a good ‘un!

In a superb spot just hidden behind the hustle and bustle of the town lies Original Sin, waiting packed with veggie delights. Light, airy and green, the location is perfect for a long lunch – exactly what we were after. Firstly we started with the Mezze Platter ($22, also comes as a main at $30), complete with warm ciabatta bread, babaganush, yogurt tzatziki, pumpkin and carrot dip, hummus and falafel. I love a picky starter that everyone can muck their mitts into! The platter is a generous sharing size for two or three people. The pumpkin and carrot dip was a favourite of ours, with its sweet tanginess seeping into the bread beautifully. The creamy yogurt tzatziki made an excellent partner in crime to the perfectly moist falafel.

The Bosco misto ($26) followed. This was just all too easy to eat – warm, cheesy and smooth. These delicious little patties have a crisp outer layer of crushed almonds and sesame seeds with a naughty, creamy, filling of spinach, feta and tofu. The button mushroom-plum sauce that comes with them makes for a great balance of sweet and savoury, spoiling you with all those lovely flavours at once.

As far as risottos in Singapore go, this one is definitely one of the better ones I’ve had. Their very green Risotto of the day ($26) was packed with chunky broccoli, asparagus and of course perfectly cooked risotto rice, matched with a creamy sauce. A really good consistency, and not too fluid. A filling, flavoursome dish and a decent sized main course.

Another belly filler is their Absolute Pasta number! ($26). Yes, that’s right, boozy pasta. Again, a well put together and all in all a wholesome, tasty, substantial bowlful, packed with asparagus, mushrooms, peppers, spinach, onions and flamed with Absolute Vodka!

Portion sizes here are pretty generous, but it would be rude to not try some dessert.. or at least share one!
The Tiramisu ($12) is definitely a sharing size. It’s coco rich, cold, ice-cream-textured and easily devoured.

On the heavier side, the Apple Crumble ($12) consists of stewed fruits, with separate crumble sprinkled on top. It’s got an underlying whiff of Christmas with it’s warm cinnamon flavour.  Both come served with vanilla ice-cream to contrast that lovely warm crumble. A little different to your traditional apple crumble, but definitely worth a nibble!

Veggies.. get on down and fellow carnivores, it might be meatless but it’s more than munchable!
