The Arts House

After Parliament House moved to a new building on North Bridge Road in 1999, Singapore’s oldest colonial building has been converted into the Arts House, one of Singapore’s leading multidisciplinary arts centre.

The Arts House supports and hosts a wide range of programmes aimed to foster and enrich Singapore’s literary scene, such as being the partner of the famous Singapore’s Writer’s Festival while hosting World Lit sessions, which features writers from around the world and provides a platform for them to discuss their critically acclaimed works, and interact with local readers. (We were thrilled to find out that Vietnamese poet Kosal Khiev was returning to the Lion City year!)

The Arts House also organises various writing competitions aimed to foster new writing talent, with their biannual Golden Point Awards (entries have opened as of 1 May 2015!) and their most recent New Word Order event. We’re also looking forward to their Endeavous Documentary Film Festival, which recognise and celebrate the endeavours in the art of great filmmaking.

Whether you’re a budding artist or lit junkie, the events that The Arts House hosts are seriously worth checking out.

When Joel’s not partaking in one of his shameless eating sessions, he likes to think of himself as a sponge – absorbing the mysteries and beauty of our world – be it through a good book or a wacky jaunt in a foreign country.
