Asian Civilisations Museum

The Asian Civilisations Museum is definitely one of the stronghold museums in Singapore, being the very first to feature the Pan-Asian cultures and civilisations across the region. The Museum’s collection focuses on the ancient cultures that were brought to Singapore over 200 years ago and created the basic foundation of our multi-ethnic society.

The site’s 11 themed galleries make for an exciting way to learn and experience the multitude of facets that make up the numerous cultures throughout Asia. We feel that a great place to start your journey would be at the iconic Singapore River Gallery, which aims to reflect the experiences of everyone who inhabitated the area back in the old days, such as the coolies’ and the Chettiars, the indigenous Orang Laut and the newly arrived Europeans. Currently, we’re pretty fascinated by one of the newer, ongoing exhibits at the Ancient Religions Gallery, which aims to trace the spread of religions from India to China, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia.

Whether you’re a history buff attempting to trace back your roots or simply someone who wishes to know more about Singapore’s heritage, the Asian Civilisations Museum is the place to be for an enriching experience.

When Joel’s not partaking in one of his shameless eating sessions, he likes to think of himself as a sponge – absorbing the mysteries and beauty of our world – be it through a good book or a wacky jaunt in a foreign country.
