Event Details

In the world around us, things are always in motion. Trees bear witness to the movement of time and the passing of generations. They have found ways to adapt to rapid urban development and the transformation of our lived environments. This mixed media installation featuring collages mounted onto the walls explores the concept of flux from the perspective of a tree. For Tay, a tree is a collector of fragments of memories and keeper of the moments of change taking place in the world. The installation will also evolve as she adopts an accumulative process of adding new layers of material to it over the duration of the exhibition, in the same way a tree trunk develops successive growth rings over time. The work itself becomes a metaphor for the state of flux constantly happening around us.

Danielle Tay (b.1990, Singapore) is fascinated by the events and happenings in daily life which are sometimes overlooked. She is concerned with bringing the unseen to life and capturing the essence of fleeting moments which resonate with her. Her work traverses the boundaries of painting and craft, the abstract and the figurative, and incorporates processes of printmaking, painting and collage. Tay has exhibited locally and internationally in London, Korea, Moscow, Hong Kong and Singapore. Her works are held in private collections in Singapore, USA, UK and Australia. She has collaborated with and created works for clients such as JTC, Facebook and MUJI.
