Event Details

At the edges of things, visual metamorphosis between matter produces new meanings through metaphors and composition. The amalgamation of form and content often creates an abstraction that allows one to enter into ‘elsewhere’ through the collision of edges and layers.

The works of Danielle Tay and PAYNK have a unique strategy in appropriating various conceptual parts into a sum that results in fantastical works that employ prismatic color palettes. PAYNK illustrated a world of Western culture through fantastical Chinese aesthetics and visual wordplay. The mishmash of visual language is a surreal portrayal of a cultural collision that is deeply personal to the artist. Danielle captures “worlds within” constructed spaces inspired by the daily hectic routines that transport one to another space in exploring another world within our current one. As American sociologist, Ann Swidler, shared that color serves as part of our cultural “tool kit”, the artists have presented the sociology of color in apprehending these by-products of today’s civilization.

Prismatic Segments is interested in the areas where the edges of things collide, the spaces that reveal new narratives, and the beauty in looking at the parts and the sum in totality.
