5 Things To Do This Week in Singapore: 3rd to 9th October 2016

This week, catch a local film on the coincidence of life, watch one of West End’s most popular comedy shows, meet the man who started the international house music scene, and more.

Utter: One Hour to Daylight
utter

One Hour to Daylight is a social drama set in present-day Singapore, screened as part of Singapore Writers Festival‘s Utter. A lift technician, Chen, dies in a worksite accident and his wife travels from China to collect his body. Overseeing the case is ambitious Malay lawyer Andy, whose daughter Dela constantly knocks heads with her grandparents due to their class differences. Then there is her friend, Wei Ting, whose father decides to rob a bank with Chen’s Bangladeshi co-worker. Although separate, their lives all intertwine and collide in the Curry Incident.

Utter: One Hour to Daylight is screening on 5 & 6 October 2016 at *SCAPE. Tickets are priced at $12, available here. For more details, check out the event page here.

‘Perfect Nonsense’ from London’s West End
jeeves-and-wooster

Following a mind-blowing sell-out on London’s West End, three successful UK tours and a season in Mumbai, the charming (and very incompetent) English duo Bertie Wooster (the dim-witted, calamity-prone toff) and his unflappable manservant Jeeves are coming here! Winner of Best New Comedy at London’s 2014 Olivier Awards, Perfect Nonsense layers joy on joy and joke on joke in an evening of hilarious absurdity.

‘Perfect Nonsense’ from London’s West End is running from 6 to 16 October 2016 at Capitol Theatre. Tickets are priced from $70, available via SISTIC. For more details, check out the event page here.

TheatreWorks presents GALA
gala

It’s not commonly known that the term ‘gala’ means ‘enjoyment’ in old French. With his quirky and humorous take on dance, renowned choreographer Jérôme Bel’s latest creation will bring together a mixed bag of 20 locals – non-professional performers and seasoned artists alike – in a forward-thinking and colourful display of distinct personas through multiple genres of dance. Bel has a penchant for bringing out and empowering seemingly ordinary individuals to become a star in their own right, so this is definitely something to watch out for.

TheatreWorks presents GALA is running from 6 to 8 October 2016, 8pm at Victoria Theatre. Tickets are priced from $22, available via SISTIC. For more details, check out the event page here.
