5 Things To Do In Singapore This Week: 9th to 15th September 2019

Hear that screaming? That’s the giddy roar of Singapore’s musicheads descending upon this week’s hottest music fests. Music Matters is serving up a weeklong slice of indie heaven with J-pop, rock, and everything in between, while Escape 56 has an electronic jamboree up its sleeves. When you need a breather from the non-stop raving, refuel yourself with Temple Cellars’ liquid buffet or some Tiong Bahru hawker nosh.

Bask In Good Beats at Music Matters Live 2019

ShiGGa Shay

It’s a rock, hip hop and electropop bonanza this week as Music Matters returns for its 14th year. Asia’s premier indie music fest will feature 50 live acts from all over the world − expect R&B juggernauts like Australia’s Billy Davis and the Good Lords and electro icons like Estonia’s I Wear* Experiment. Homegrown talents like Charlie Lim, ShiGGa Shay, and RRILEY will also be gracing the stage, so clear your calendars and get your jam on.

Music Matters Live 2019 is happening from 13 to 18 September 2019 at Clarke Quay Central, 3 River Valley Road, Singapore 179204, as well as partner venues across Singapore. Admission is free.

Liquor Up at Temple Cellars Raid-Our-Fridge Party

Hipster bottle shop Temple Cellars is turning two, and they’re throwing a boozy bash to celebrate. Head down to their free-flow buffet spread to raid their excellent stash of craft beers, premium sakes, small-batch wines, and more. With their penchant for weird and wonderful spirits, you’ll probably discover a new favourite or two.

Temple Cellars Raid-Our-Fridge Party is happening on 14 September 2019 from 4pm to 12am at UE Square #01-12, 81 Clemenceau Ave, Singapore 239917. Tickets are priced at S$60 (4pm-8pm or 8pm-12am session) or S$100 (full-day session) via Eventbrite.

Pay With Plastic at Tiong Bahru Market

Don’t toss out that empty drinks bottle just yet − it can net you some great hawker nosh this Sunday. Swap your used (and washed!) plastic bottles for 50-cent coupons at Pay With Plastic, redeemable at Tiong Bahru Market stalls for one day only. What’s more, you’ll get an additional dollar off your hawker feast when you bring your own reusable container.

Pay With Plastic is happening on 15 September 2019 from 8am to 6pm at Tiong Bahru Market, 30 Seng Poh Road, Singapore 168898. Entry is free.

Trick Yo’ Self at Supernormal’s Objects In The Mirror

Seeing may be believing, but your eyes can sure play tricks on you. An exhibition curated by indie art gallery Supernormal, Objects In The Mirror explores how illusion and incomplete perception shape our understanding of material reality. Video art and installations by three up-and-coming artists − Desiree Tham, Ryan Benjamin Lee, and Yeyoon Avis Ann − will immerse you in a world where things start to get topsy-turvy.

Objects In The Mirror runs from 12 September to 12 October 2019 at 101 Desker Road, Singapore 209623. Admission is free.

Rock Out with Escape 56 Feat. Henrik Schwarz

Pop-up party series Escape 56 is back with a groovy shebang by German house music great Henrik Schwarz. After nearly a decade, Schwarz returns to Singapore with his inimitable blend of classical and electronic sound, while local DJs Joshua P and Toppings will be getting you revved up. Escape 56 isn’t telling about where’s the party at just yet − but knowing them, they’ve got something epic up their sleeves.

Escape 56 Feat. Henrik Schwarz Live (Innervisions/DE) is happening on 13 September 2019 from 10pm to 3am, at an unrevealed location. Tickets are priced from S$48.50 via Peatix
