5 Things To Do in Singapore: 27th January to 2nd February 2020

One month down – eleven to go! As far as enjoying each week goes, we hope you knocked January out of the park. If not – we’re never short on things to do and places to go in Singapore. Break out of your comfort zone at Janet Teoh’s breakout solo exhibition Obsessions, headbang to indie and rock from the 90s at Teenage Riot, or kick off February with a boozy Gin Journey.

Attend a Poetry Slam at SPOKE & BIRD #29

Ever been to a poetry slam? Well, this could be your chance to tick it off the list. After a year of incredible acts both local and international, The Merry Lion Comedy Cafe & Bar hosts Spoke & Bird’s first act of 2020 with an up and coming talent from our very own sunny shores: Kevin Kwong. Although still a full-time student, Kwong’s achievements in the arts range from poetry to theatre, to ballroom dance. If you fancy yourself a literary troubadour of sorts, open mic still stands that night, too.

SPOKE & BIRD #29: Kevin Kwong is happening on 29 January 2020, 7.30pm – 11pm, at The Merry Lion Comedy Cafe & Bar, #03-00, 8b Circular Rd, Singapore 049364. Tickets go at S$5.

Engage in a Good Old Teenage Riot

Come relish in old times with Indie, Rock and Alternative anthems, favourites straight from the 90s and the decade’s newest releases. Together with guest DJ Kim Wong from Singapore Vinyl Junkies, the resident mixmasters at White Label Records welcome you to a night of nostalgia-fuelled euphoria, including mixes from classics like The Cure, Suede, Pulp and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and mixer deals from happy hour house pours and bottle promotions.

Teenage Riot is happening on 30 January 2020, 8pm – 12am, at White Label Records, 28 Ann Siang Rd #01-01, Ann Siang House, Singapore 069708.

Teoh brings to light the origins and processes of wearable art and its innovative fabrications – combining a diverse range of materials and colours, including textiles, paper, plastic, and metals – and expresses it into dynamic sculptural forms that tread a thin line between contemporary art and fashion.

Janet Teoh: Obsessions runs from 31 January 2020 to 26 February 2020, 6.30pm – 8.30pm at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, LASALLE College of the Arts, 1 McNally Street, Singapore 187940. Entry is free.
