5 Things To Do In Singapore This Week: 23rd to 29th April 2018

This week, we bring you a short film festival, a comedy dance performance, and a free concert. Let loose at Blackout Agency’s collaboration with Disco Loco’s dance party and get fancy for Manhattan‘s fourth anniversary celebration!

Shorties Film Festival Singapore

Celebrate independent filmmakers and the unique stories they have to tell at the first annual Shorties Film Festival. Giving emerging directors a platform to screen and share their exciting short films, these screenings will take place simultaneously across all of the Hive locations in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong. Each film is between 10-20 minutes long and judged by five jury members, including filmmaker Bertrand Lee. 家 (home) by Nozomi Tolworthy, the first film to be screened, explores complex themes of identity and belonging while  Re-Write by Tuấn Long from Vietnam follows a grieving man who tries to use technology to recreate his past.

Shorties Film Festival is taking place at The Hive Lavander, 1 Kallang Junction, 6th floor, Singapore 339263, from 23-26 April 2018 7-9pm (Winners will be notified on 27 April 2018 via Shorties Facebook Page). One day pass tickets priced at $5 & Full Festival Pass $15 available via Peatix.

2018 HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens

The six-week Singapore Rugby Carnival comes to a roaring end this weekend with the two-day tournament happening on 28 and 29 April 2018. Stop 8 of the 10-round HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, the tournament brings 16 of the world’s top teams to town, including defending champion Canada, as well as the usual powerhouses such as Fiji, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia. Blackout Agency x Disco Loco Presents: The Revenge (UK)

Disco and house reign supreme at Lucha Loco on Friday nights. Blackout Agency will be curating the music exclusively for 27 April, and they’re flying in their favourite house DJ, The Revenge (Roar Groove, Delusions of Grandeur, UK). Famed for his early disco re-edits, his forward-thinking productions and versatility as a DJ have made him one of the leading names for dance music. Local Djs Hookstyle and DJ KFC will get the party started with back to back sets and Lucha Loco has you covered with a special menu of cocktails, premium house pours, house wines and cava all for $15 nett, so get ready to dance!

Manhattan’s 4th Anniversary with American Bar

Manhattan goes big with a special treat – the American Bar experience – for its fourth anniversary. The world’s best bar will be in town for one night only; guests can get up close with Head Bartender Erik Lorincz and Senior Bartender Philipa ‘Pippa’ Guy (the bar’s first female senior bartender in 100 years) for a masterclass and guest shifts. Break-Out  – K Dance Extreme Comedy

After selling out in 2009 and 2010, Break-Out is back with a exhilarating new production! Featuring a cast of some of Korea’s award-winning and leading B-Boys, BREAK OUT tells the story of a prison escape, where the fugitives find  temporary shelter at a convent. Through their quest for freedom, the lovable characters evolve to become better individuals. Throw humour into the mix and you’ve got yourself an entertaining show. South Korea is known for its entertaining non-verbal shows, and this one, with all its thrilling dance moves, is sure to leave you speechless too.
