5 Things to Do in Singapore This Week: 11 September to 17 September 2017

This week, rev up for the jam-packed F1 weekend with a series of eminent exhibitions and parties. From the ArtScience Museum’s latest SERPENTIForm exhibition and Spanish artist, Manolo Valdes’ first exhibition in Asia, to an evening of music by French Kiwi Juice, there will surely be more than enough to thrill your senses.

SERPENTIForm

Presented in conjunction with famed jewelry house Bulgari, SERPENTIForm is an enchanting survey of the timeless snake motif in art. From ancient Egyptian artefacts to lithographs by Keith Haring, the exhibit spans over two thousand years, and covers works from East to West. Thus, you can expect to discover some priceless treasures such as a 3rd Century sculpture from Italy, an original print by Katsushika Hokusai, as well as the first ever Marc Chagall painting to be put on public display in Singapore.

But what’s a Bulgari showcase without the jewels? Art and antiquities aside, the exhibition closes with the most dazzling display of costume jewelry featuring Bulgari’s iconic Serpenti design, sourced straight from the Maison’s own archives. Ravishing and utterly sensational, this latest exhibition at the ArtScience Museum is not to be missed.

SERPENTIForm will be happening from 19 Aug – 15 Oct 2017, 10am – 7pm daily, at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands, 6 Bayfront Ave, Singapore 018974. For more information, check out the event page here.

Collective Minds Presents French Kiwi Juice with Jack Hyde

Sooth the midweek blues with a breezy evening at the Kilo Lounge, and vibe away to the grooviest beats by French multi-instrumentalist and singer, Vincent Fenton. Better known as French Kiwi Juice, Fenton began his career as a sound engineer in film, before venturing into electronic music production. Therefore, an intrinsic sense of drama often underlies his music, regardless of whether it takes the form of funky tunes or broody synths. His latest album presents more melodies of the former sort, and is guaranteed to keep you upbeat and dancing through the night.

Collective Minds Presents French Kiwi Juice with Jack Hyde will be happening from 19 Sep 2017, 10pm – 3am, at Kilo Lounge, 21 Tanjong Pagar Road #01-02/04, Singapore 088444. For more information, check out the event page here.

UltraSuperNew Presents Automarktic

What happens when we strip artworks down to their essence? All that remains is often just lines suspended in space – and this is exactly what local artist, Juls, seeks to express in her first solo show in Singapore. Taking to the white walls of UltraSuperNew vast gallery space, the artist will surround visitors with various, hand-marked patterns in her immersive piece, thereby enabling them to juxtapose the mural with her other works hanging in the same room. Experimental and highly absorbing, the show’s ten unique pieces promise to demystify and decode the artist’s creative process for its viewers.

UltraSuperNew Presents Automarktic will be happening from 15 – 23 Sep 2017 (closed on Sundays), 10am – 7pm daily, at UltraSuperNew, 13 Bussorah St, Singapore 199434. For more information, check out the event page here.

The celebrated genius behind some of the most monumental sculptures in London’s Chatsworth house, as well as the Place Vendôme of Paris, Manolo Valdes will finally be bringing his prolific collection of masterpieces to our shores, for his first ever solo exhibition within this region. Amongst these is a one of a kind Cabeza Dorado sculpture, a larger-than-life work that stands at 4.55m in height, and is created specially by the award-winning artist for the occasion. Other pieces you can also look forward to seeing include the Eight Menina sculptures, which will be distinctly displayed at ION2, as well as a wide selection of paintings that will be on show at the Opera Gallery. With few exhibitions more prominent than this, Manolo Valdes’ solo show is certainly one for the aficionados.

Manolo Valdes in Singapore will be happening from 15 Sep – 15 Oct 2017, all day long, at Opera Gallery, #02-16 ION Orchard, Singapore 238801. For more information, check out the gallery’s official page here.
