5 Shows To Catch at The Singapore Comedy Fringe

The folks at Comedy Club Asia think we all need a little more laughter in our lives – we couldn’t agree more – by organizing Singapore Comedy Fringe this year from 9-13 June. So mark your calendars, because some of the finest comedians in the world will be flying into our little red dot for this five-day festival.

With more than 30 comedians in 10 shows over five days, all this laughter in the air can make one a little giddy, so here are some of the highlights of The Singapore Comedy Fringe 2015:

Sons of Singapore

If you think that Singapore is one of the unhappiest and un-funniest places around, think again. Hosted by local comedy veteran Kumar, rising stars Fakkah Fuzz, Rishi Budhrani, and Jinx Yeo (all of whom represent our major racial groups, just as our social studies textbook would have insisted upon) take centre stage as they make you laugh, and most possibly cry, with their own brand of Singaporean comedy.

Best of British

This show is definitely for the people who enjoy the sophisticated wit of British humour. The diverse backgrounds and experience of Imran Yusuf (Kenyan born Brit of Indian descent), Mandy Knight (classically trained actress turned comedian), and Gavin Webster (UK Circuit Comedian of the Year 2014) ensures an evening of side-splitting laughter.

Malaysia Mirth Mafia 2

The best show (well, arguably) from last year’s Singapore Comedy Fringe returns. Led by the Godfather of Malaysian comedy, Harith Iskander, these humorous henchmen – including Rizal van Geyzel, Kavin Jayaram, and Jaason Leong – from across the causeway return to render you breathless with their rapid-fire salvo of punch lines.

Thunder from Down Under

The thunderous trio of Peter Berner, Brendon Burns, and Jonathan Atherton will be leaving you in hysterics as they poke fun at the quirks of daily Singaporean life. Atherton’s skit from 3 years ago, in which he discusses his experiences from living here (especially his adventures on Singapore’s expressways), was hilarious – we hope he does it again! We’re just sorry that Tony Abbott won’t be here for this one.

The Fringe Gala

Only have time for one show this season? Then you’ll definitely want to catch the festival’s grand finale. Featuring eight of Singapore Comedy Fringe’s top comics such as Bollywood star Vir Das and Canadian comedian Dana Alexander, this jocular spectacular is sure to leave you fuelled with enough laughs and giggles till Singapore Comedy Fringe returns next year.

When not travelling around Singapore searching for the best iced coffee, Stephanie can commonly be found checking out museums, waiting in long queues for bubble tea, and taking her two dogs out on walks.
