Everywhere you look, people are wearing the same thing they probably bought from the same old places. Even when you’re shopping around in town, nothing impresses you. Heading online, the beautiful catalogues beckon but alas, Singapore is not on the shipping list, or the shipping rates cost obnoxiously more than the item itself. We know how that feels, so if you’re looking to add something unique to your wardrobe, here are five fashion retail gems that focus on quality material and inventive design.
PACT
This design collective has upgraded its space recently, expanding from the original three brands – Kilo restaurant, Japanese hair salon PACT+LIM, and everyday wear label, sifr – to the current eight. The newcomers include Killari, jewellery made with semi precious stones by Ecuadorian designer Sofia Villacis and Code Deco, which brings you deliciously scented perfumes. Dive into the intelligently designed furniture and lifestyle product of Fred Lives Here and Hauswerks, or pamper yourself and get nails done at KIYONE+LIM. In a nutshell, PACT is probably THE go-to for the best retail experience in town for more than fashion under one roof.

KEEPERS
Perched right on the field across the road from Heeren, KEEPERS is a recently installed pop-up store that will be staying till February next year. Find fine local labels such as Elohim, Carrie K, Ling Wu and Womb. Aside from showcasing local fashion, KEEPERS show that they take the art of design seriously as their own on-site studio is used to host design workshops and seminars, as well as local exhibitions and performances to encourage homegrown talent and active participation in the visual arts. When you head down to check out this unique space, rest assured that you will be coming out with something new – tangible or not.

Little Man
This one is such a delight to find, partly because its location is utterly random and unexpected. Located semi-awkwardly on Binjai Road, Little Man is a multi-label boutique that delivers. Contrary to its name, Little Man is not just for men, though you can expect beautifully made men’s shirts and tees, with labels like sifr, OBEY, and Tom & Teddy in-store. Ladies can look forward to handmade jewellery from Stelliyah, as well as Japanese brand Black Crane and Sessun from France for apparel.

Nana & Bird
Nana & Bird is a reclusive genius of a store tucked away in the hipster Tiong Bahru neighbourhood that brings in classy, modern, inventive and minimalistic designs from the coolest of the cool independent labels from all over the world. Shipping in brands like Jennifer Loiselle and Milk & Thistle, Nana & Bird caters to both women and children with nothing but crisp designs and sleek pieces that make statements effortlessly.
