There’s something truly gratifying about stuffing our faces silly with rice and fresh fish – and even more so when prices are pocket friendly. There are many number of restaurants offering Japanese chefs and fish flown in from Tsukiji Market, but even the hoi polloi need to go on budget sometimes; so here’s our roundup of value-for-money places to get good cheap sushi, sashimi, and a whole lot more.
Who hasn’t heard of this one? I mean, sushi starting from 40 cents? With a massive selection of nigiris, makis, rolls, and of course, sashimi are available at very attractive prices, it’s no wonder Itacho is a hit amongst younger diners. Highlights include the Giant Scallop sushi, the Roasted Fatty Salmon sushi, and Tuna Belly (Toro) sashimi. Prices range from $1.50 to $5 per piece.
Bringing the magic words of ‘sushi” and “all you can eat” together in glorious unity, the idea that you might be able to get your chops around an enormous selection of free-flow sushi and sashimi (along with udon, soba, and more) at a cost of $35 (lunch) or $42 (dinner) might seem crazy but praise be, it’s true! Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru
While Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru is a conveyer belt sushi restaurant, it is, by no means, mediocre. Diners can expect pocket friendly sushi and specials like the nama sakura ebi, maguro salad, and daimyo anago sushi. A Gunkan Set ($6.80) with eight nigiri sushis is great for an afternoon snack or light meal, along with a bowl of piping hot udon, we reckon.
