Here comes the Ice Creme Man (and woman)….

It seems like since I moved to Singapore nearly 3 years ago, there has been an explosion of new ice cream and gelato places popping up all over the shop…So many that  I can't keep track, and frankly most of the them seem pretty 'samey' to be honest. One place however does not in my opinion. Located at the Beach road end of Haji Lane in the up-and-come Kampong Glam, lies a little gem of an ice cream shop.

A person should always try and do in life what they love and are passionate about, and that's exactly what owners Melvin Khoo (former Audio engineer) and Claudia Tan (former HR executive) did about a year and a half ago. Learning the traditional techniques from an Italian Gelato Specialist, they came to open 'Ice Creme Man'.

What I really like about them and their outlet is the uniqueness of their product and the personal experience you receive.

I probably frequent Ice Creme Man about once a month to stock up, and it seems that each time I visit, there is a new assault of flavors I couldn't even imagine. In the past, i've tasted 'Tiger beer ice-cream', 'Honey Whisky liqueur sorbet', 'Milo ice-cream' and 'Champadak sorbet'. On my most recent visit, the menu included 'Kaya ice-cream', 'Avocado sorbet', 'Basil Lime sorbet', 'Fruit Wine sorbet', and 'Honey Lemon Tea gelato'.

Whilst they tend to shuffle the menu around on a daily basis, there are usually the favorites like the 'Durian sorbet' (which even as an Ang Mo, i'm crazy for) and 'Dark Chocolate gelato' to be found.

Owners Melvin and Claudia are personally a fan of the 'Red Wine sorbet' and 'Baileys ice-cream'.

Oh, and it get's better……if you want them to make something special - your own creation if you will….just ask. It will take them 2 days, and all you have to commit to is buying a double scoop ($4.50-6.50). (BTW - if you ever go by there and see Dark Rum with Horlicks…I'm happy to take some credit ;-).

Another great feature is that for their tasty treats, it will actually cost you significantly less that getting your cream from one of the large American manufactures….

See below for prices…As a comparison, a 500g tub of HD or B&J is usually $15-18….

So if you're hankering for some creamy goodness, even late at night (their open until__ , which incidentally is usually when I go there!), check them out. You won't be disappointed.

Ice Creme Man is located at 7 Haji Lane and open 1pm-11pm Sunday, Tuesday- Thurday, and 1pm-1am Friday and Saturday. Closed Mondays.
