Born and raised in Singapore, DJ-Producer Mr. Has is also currently the Asia Pacific Music Director for W Hotels. One of Singapore’s key figures in the electronic music scene, his work has introduced underground and cutting-edge club sounds to the island’s nightlife scene. Beyond Singapore, his genre-bending sets have also gained traction on international stages: from Bali to Puerto Rico, New York to Berlin, and London to Ibiza.

Known for his ineffable style, Mr. Has has worked with fashion houses like Prada and Dior as well. You’ll find him on Mr Porter’s Style Council, a gathering of the world’s most stylish and connected men, including Hugh Jackman and Pharrell Williams. Above it all, he also runs his own label, Rawjak, promoting local and international electronic artists – a platform to roll out a monthly podcast.

In this edition of City Nomads Radio, we asked the artist to withstand our barrage of questions. As it turns out, he was more than up to the task.

What’s your earliest memory of music?

P. Ramlee (a Malaysian film actor, director, singer, songwriter, composer, and producer who was active in Singapore in the 1950s).

Would you like to live somewhere else or do you think you’ll be in Singapore for life?

Singapore is my home-base. Elsewhere I can live for a moment anytime.

Chicken rice or nasi lemak?

Nasi Lemak.

What was the first record you ever bought?

It could be a drum & bass record from Metalheadz.

What’s your favourite condiment?

Parsley.

If your music was an animal, what would it be?

Jazz Cat.

What piece of fashion could you currently not live without?

My Thom Browne pants.

How would you like to be remembered?

Just as a DJ.

Do you work better during the day or night?

Depending on the work right? 🙂
